Part 1:
1) World War I was a catastrophe that shock European society into despair, confusion and change. What were the causes of WWI ? What were the effects of WWI on European society, politics and culture? You should include examples from the lecture/textbook on Freud in your answer.
2) Argue whether or not WW I and WW II could be considered the same war. In what ways did the WW I peace settlement and the interwar period cause Europe and Asia to erupt into war in the 1930s.
3) Did WWI and the rise of Totalitarian states and new philosophies such as existentialism kill Liberalism? Why or Why not? Be sure to support your argument with examples of the effect of disillusionment on interwar social, cultural, and political movements.
