Question 1: In Chapter 11, Quadagno describes social determinants of health. More recently, the Robert Wood

Johnson Foundation describes this as “Health begins where we live, work, learn and play.” What does this

mean for you, your family or future clients/patients? How can this perspective help with prevention and

treatment of chronic disease?

Question 2: Family caregivers suffer more health problems than non-caregivers. What changes or interventions

can help prevent this? Please consider families, health and social service providers, and public policy.

Question 3: Compared to nearly every other country in the world, in the U.S. many very costly medical

interventions are provided during the final days of a person’s life. How do you feel about these intensive

treatments when it is likely someone will die? If you think this should happen less often, what could be

done? If you think it should continue, how can these costs be covered?
