social work and human services.
Part B – 500 words:
Using the relevant textbook chapter/s and reading/s from topic 3 (Cultural contexts), identify and discuss how colonisation and patterns of immigration continue to
impact on social welfare in contemporary Australia.
Part C – 500 words:
Using the relevant textbook chapter/s and reading/s from topic 4 (Gender, sexuality and power), discuss some of the impacts of gender on social work and human services
practice.
Rationale
Drawing from the learning modules, the textbook and e-reserve readings for topics 1, 2, 3 and 4, this assignment enables students to demonstrate their basic
understanding of:
• practice in the social services and the historical development of social service practice and the social work profession;
• the range of vulnerabilities and contexts of practice;
• the contested nature of social services;
• relevant foundation knowledge from other disciplines that inform professional practice;
• relevant foundation knowledge, ethical principles and current debates to inform professional practice;
• current debates surrounding professional intervention in a variety of contexts;
• ethical and practice issues and dilemmas that arise in specific fields of practice.
