Write an exploratory or comparative essay about how gender is examined in a couple of the media texts we screened this past week. Choose at least two (not more than
three) different videos of the YouTube selections or the film we screened in class french film, Tomboy . For example, you can choose to compare the treatment of gender
in one of the YouTube videos to the treatment of gender in Tomboy, or you can compare one YouTube video to another.
Include specific examples of scenes or aspects from the film/ videos you choose. Consider the similarities and the differences in each work. What causes these
similarities or differences and how does that impact you as a viewer or other viewers of these films or videos? Who is the intended audience? How can you tell? How do
you as a viewer compare with this intended audience? What is the purpose of the video? How does it achieve this purpose? What are pertinent cultural contexts that need
to be addressed in making such comparisons? Does the video treat gender as a performance that is learned? Or as an innate/ inborn concept? Or both? Which video (if
either) do you find more persuasive or appealing? Why? How do these videos conform to or disrupt your expectations?
Include a works cited page and a title. These questions are meant to stimulate your thinking, not to be answered in order or to even all be answered but you should
talk about them a little atleast. Make sure to cite at least one source you find outside of the materials given for this class.
I will attach the dyer article you must reference this source in your final paper.
Feel free to write creatively this is a semi formal paper so you can include the word I to refer to yourself in the paper.
