Consider the role of the narrator in The Big Sleep and The Quiet American. Both of the novels feature first-person narration by one of the main characters. But given this similarity, one can find a number of differences in the tone of narration, the selection and omission of events that are narrated, and the time-frame of the narration (e.g. retrospective vs. ongoing).

Your paper should advance a thesis based upon the contrast among the different narrators of the two novels,
answering the question: how does the method of narration itself change our interpretation or understanding of
