watch a documentary.
David Hockney’s Secret Knowledge
write a 300-word entry answering the questions
Option 1:
Does the film David Hockney’s Secret Knowledge make you think differently about the
relationship between technology and art? Why or why not? Do the ideas presented in the film
change your perception, appreciation or understanding of historical art in any way? Explain why
or why not. Write a minimum 300-350 word entry discussing the issues brought forward in the
film and your response to them. Remember to respond to another student’s post.
Option 2:
Search for or choose an image that you have seen recently in the media that is an example of a
reproduction or copy of a well-known art work. Do not use examples already given in this
Module or textbook readings. Describe where you saw this image and the context it was seen
in. Consider the ideas of Walter Benjamin discussed in Module 6 and textbook readings in
relationship to this image. What is the relationship of your image to the “original” art work and
how does the context of viewing change the experience of the art? Discuss the potential value
of replicas or copies along with some of the problems that might be generated from the use of
copies. In your answer consider the medium of the image you are looking at. How is it different
than the original? Does this change, hinder, or enhance your understanding of the original?
Consider how you might value the copy versus the original. Write a minimum 300-350 word
entry discussing these issues and your response to them. Remember to respond to another
student’s post. See Module 6 and your textbook, pp. 183-220.
Provide a link or upload the image with your discussion of it!
