CHEMISTRY
By searching on the web or in reality, locate two different chemicals that are in consumer
products. One of these is to be an acid or a base with a molar mass greater than 78 g/mol. The other is to be an organic compound containing at least one functional group with a molar mass greater than 78 g/mol. For the purposes of this quiz, 3 qualified organic compound is one based on chains or rings of carbon atoms bonded together. In organic chemistry, functional groups are specific groups of atoms or bonds within molecules that are responsible for the characteristic chemical reactions of those molecules. The same functional group (for example ketones) will undergo the same or similar chemical reactions regardless of the size of the molecule it is a part of. An abbreviated table of functional groups appears at the end of this document.
For each chemical:
1. List by name.
2. List by chemical formula.
3. Neatly hand draw the structure
4. Identify as an acid, base, or list the functional groups present.
5. List their occurrence and a possible purpose for the inclusion of the chemical.
