Task One: AGM Presentation (50% weighting)
You are required to undertake comprehensive research on the UK based company, B&M Retail. As a starting point please refer to https://www.bandmretail.com/about-us/at-a-glance.aspx. You must complete the task outlined below for this organisation:
Imagine that your assigned company is threatened with a hostile takeover bid which undervalues the company. You must demonstrate why the company is worth more at an AGM meeting and prepare a presentation that will convince shareholders that the company is in a secure and stable position for future growth.
Your presentation must be prepared using a PowerPoint presentation with sufficient slides for a 30 minute presentation. You are not expected to present in person, instead each slide must have speaker notes (shown in the notes page view in PowerPoint) to detail the narrative that you would deliver if in fact you were presenting in person.
Your presentation must include (but not exclusively) the following:
1. Opening Statement from Chairman or Chairwoman to shareholders outlining the value of the organisation.
2. Overview of its business operations
3. Analysis of Market Performance (Ratios and Graphs)
4. Analysis of Financial Performance(Ratios and Graphs)
Note:
1) Please ensure that you use Harvard referencing in all tasks.
2) Students are expected to undertake a comprehensive range of research of secondary desk research into their set organisation, using both academic and trade sources. Eg Mintel, Keynote, FAME and ABI as well as professional publications such as the Financial Times.
3) Be critical in approach, analysing the current performance of the organisation, rather than descriptive explanations.
4) Be critical in approach when deciding on what is valid information to include/exclude for any of the elements.
5) Be sure to adopt a professional standard in presenting work, using own judgement about what is considered to be an appropriate form to communicate the corporate information requested.
