Architectural engineering and technology
Order Description
The client is considering acquiring a site at Warwick Bar and has recently sponsored an architectural ideas competition to assess the potential of the site. Having selected a design concept, the client is now inviting contractors to progress the idea on a design and build basis.
As construction managers you are commissioned to evaluate and crtically assess the environmental context of the site and its potential impact on the design concept . You are requested by the client to consider the practical application of the principles of architectural engineering and environmental technology on the design concept. You need to research and identify the most suitable environmental technologies which can be full incorporated including the newly emerging Renewable Energy Technologies (e.g. photo voltaic, wind tribune, geothermal) and prepare a report to the client spelling out the rational and justification for your decision and the likely cost estimation incurred for implementing and incorporating these technologies.

As construction managers you are commissioned to evaluate and crtically assess the environmental context of the site and its potential impact on the design concept . You are requested by the client to consider the practical application of the principles of architectural engineering and environmental technology on the design concept. This project will be based around a property at Warwick Bar, Fazeley Street, Birmingham; a site visit for CM students will arranged. All the information you require will be provided either in the course documentation on Moodle (coursework resource directory) or by observation during the site visit. Students will not be permitted to access the buildings associated with the site. Students are not permitted to contact Birmingham City Council Planning Department or Building Control; nor the landlord, his agents or architects. The report shall, with reference to the learning outcomes of the module, demonstrate how you have considered and / or practically incorporated the following principles of architectural engineering and environmental technology in your designated architectural project. 1. How through synergic design approaches both creative design and engineering methodologies are incorporated into environmentally sustainable technologies for a building. 2. How through the consideration of environmental context, the principles of thermal comfort and building behaviour that a strategy for passive and /or active control measures, ventilation, air conditioning, heating / cooling systems, solar control, lighting design and energy management are incorporated into a building. 3. How through consideration of the principles sound and acoustic appropriate strategies of noise control, echoing and acoustic design are incorporated into a building. 4. How fire strategies and escape, vertical movement (lifts) and distributive / waste services are incorporated within a building with consideration of appropriate maintenance and reference to relevant regulation
