ABORTION- PERSUASIVE SPEECH

Introduction

Attention getter:

Abortion is an act of taking innocent human life at its most vulnerable state. It is a profoundly unjust and immoral act.  As righteous Christians committed to justice, we cannot stand by and just let that happen. We need to take a similar stand against abortion today, just as Christians in the previous generations took a stand against slavery. (Dr. James, 2015 )

Credibility:

Abortion is a scorching topic in our nation right now. Unintended pregnancies result in about 42 million induced abortions per year worldwide, yet progressive politicians still support under the pretext of “planned parenthood.” In 2015, the CDC reported 638,169 legally induced abortion from 49 areas in the US. (CDC, 2019)

Thesis statement:

Abortion is an immoral and unjust act of murder and should be condemned at all by the Bible.

Preview statement:

The teaching on the Sanctity of Life dictates that human life is sacred and is a gift from God, and must be respected and protected. The Bible teaches that human beings are created in the image of God and that murder is forbidden. Jesus declared that each person is precious to God, so much that God has counted every hair on their head.

Body

1. According to the Bible, human life is sacred and distinctive of other forms of life because human beings are created in the exact image of God. According to the accounts of the creation of man, it is written: “God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27). The recurrence of the word “create” signifies a special crowning moment of God’s creations of the world and everything in it, and giving man dominion over it. Therefore, the value of human life is expressed in its existence in the image of God. We are not just a bunch of random cells stuck together by interpersonal forces. Instead, we reflect an eternal God who has known us even before we were conceived (Pavone:, 2019). In Psalms, a question is raised at the heart the abortion tragedy: “Lord, what is man that you care for him, mortal man that you keep in mind?… with glory and honor you crowned him, giving him power over the works of your hands.” (Psalm 8:5-7)

2.Coversly, it is taught in the Bible that children are a blessing and a reward to humanity: “Truly children are a gift from God” (Psalm 127:3). God encouraged Adam and Eve to “Be fertile and multiply” (Genesis 1:28). He values procreation and oversees the process of conception and birth. When Eve gave birth to her first child, she exclaimed, “I have brought forth a man with the help of the Lord” (Genesis 4:1). To bring life forth, cooperation between God and parent is required. Therefore, it is sinful to interrupt such a process. (Pavone:, 2019)

3. Finally, abortion is an act of murder on innocent lives. The scripture condemns the killing of the innocent. God personally wrote, “Thou shalt not kill” (Exodus 20:13, Deuteronomy 5:17) and Christ too affirms it when he mentions this commandment in Mathew 19:18. Furthermore, it is clearly stated that murderers cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. God condemned the killing of children through His prophets. In fact, the sin of child-sacrifice was one of the primary reasons why the Kingdom of Israel was destroyed by the Assyrians and its people sent into exile (Pavone:, 2019). As the Bible states in 2 Kings 17:17-18, “They mutilated their sons and daughters by fire… till the Lord, in his great anger against Israel, put them away out of his sight”

Conclusion

We are expected by God to treat children inside the womb with as much dignity, and respect as we would treat children outside the womb. There is no account in the Bible that the lives of unborn children should be viewed as insignificant or expendable. Biblical laws do not give man jurisdiction over taking another man’s life.
